The original kitchen featured a traditional Mediterranean aesthetic with rich cherry wood cabinetry, travertine stone surrounds, granite countertops, and a separate enclosed layout. The space felt warm but compartmentalized, with the kitchen and dining areas divided by walls — limiting natural light flow and creating a sense of confinement. New Layout & Design Breakdown Wall Removal & Open Concept By knocking down the dividing wall, the kitchen now flows seamlessly into the living and dining area, creating a dramatically more spacious and airy feel. The light wood flooring reinforces this openness and visually unifies the entire space. Structural Columns → Feature Shelving The two retained structural columns became the star design move — clad floor-to-ceiling in black and rose gold veined marble, they now read as intentional architectural statement pieces rather than structural necessities. Open shelving built between them displays curated décor, making the columns feel like a purposefully designed display tower. This is the signature design decision of the remodel. Island & Countertops A large waterfall island in matching black and rose gold marble anchors the space, with sleek bar stools for casual seating. The continuous marble surface creates a dramatic focal point while providing generous prep and gathering space. Cabinetry Flat-panel cabinetry in warm taupe and bronze tones replaced the ornate cherry wood, shifting the aesthetic from traditional Mediterranean to contemporary luxury. The streamlined hardware-free fronts contribute to the clean, editorial look. LightingRecessed ceiling lighting combined with subtle LED under-cabinet and under-island strip lighting adds depth and drama. The layered lighting scheme allows the space to transition from bright functional cooking light to warm ambient entertaining mode.
