Project Overview

A full kitchen renovation for a stunning contemporary residence in Indian Wells, refreshing an open-plan white kitchen with a custom wet bar addition featuring dark matte cabinetry, marble countertops, integrated wine cooler, and backlit open shelving — adding both functionality and luxury to the space.

The existing kitchen was a fully open-plan contemporary space with all-white high-gloss cabinetry, white quartz countertops, a black island base with white top, stainless steel range hood, and polished concrete floors. While clean and functional, the palette was monotone and lacked material warmth or contrast. The coffee and bar area had no dedicated zone — bottles and appliances competed for countertop space along the main cooking wall. The defining move of this remodel is the deliberate mix of three finishes — matte black cabinetry, crisp white panels, and champagne aluminum accents. This tricolor composition adds sophistication and depth without overwhelming the bright, open-plan space. The champagne aluminum brings a warm metallic shimmer that bridges the black and white elements. The centerpiece of the remodel is the oversized island featuring a dramatic waterfall edge in white marble with gold veining. The stone cascades continuously from the countertop down both ends, creating a sculptural, high-end statement. The island scale is generous enough to serve as both a prep zone and a social gathering point with seating along one side.A custom reclaimed wood beam pendant with integrated linear LED lighting anchors the island from above. The warm wood tone of the beam introduces natural texture and contrast against the black and white cabinetry, while the lighting provides focused task illumination over the prep surface.Upper cabinets are finished in matte black, creating a bold upper zone that grounds the ceiling plane. Open walnut-toned shelving is integrated mid-height between the upper cabinets and the backsplash, providing display and accessible storage. A horizontal garden-view window is preserved and framed by the shelving, maintaining the indoor-outdoor connection.A full-height green sage stone slab backsplash behind the cooking zone introduces an organic, earthy element that complements the champagne and wood tones. It acts as a focal point feature wall, bringing color and natural texture into an otherwise neutral palette.A purpose-built coffee and bar station was designed as a separate vignette adjacent to the main kitchen. Finished entirely in matte black cabinetry with a marble countertop, it features LED-illuminated open shelving for spirits and glassware display, a built-in wine/beverage fridge, and space for a coffee machine. The large sliding glass door beside it frames garden views, making it a natural entertaining node. The existing polished concrete floors were retained, providing a neutral industrial base that grounds the new elevated finishes without competing with them. The open-plan layout was preserved, maintaining the seamless connection between kitchen, dining, and living areas.
